St John's Christmas tree

On Sunday 7th December, Cllr Bob Brierley & Dawn Draper (HGRA committee member) put up the Christmas tree in the grounds of St John's church, Hindley Green.
Cllr Brierley supplied the tree from the Brighter Borough Funding.

Father Christmas took time out from his very busy schedule to visit Hindley Green. He came along to help St John's Church celebrate their Christmas Fair.
Santa set up his grotto in the church grounds.

After seeing lots of children and joining in the festivities, Santa very kindly accepted to switch on the Christmas tree lights. Cllr Brierley provided Christmas music.

Hindley Green Residents Association committee members Eric & Ivy Dickens handed out HGRA Newsletters and Membership Forms.

Dawn Patrol
Generations united in caring for each other
This service is open to older people living in the Ince/Hindley & Hindley Green wards.
The main objectives are:
" Provide the service user with peace of mind that somebody is checking if they are OK each morning.
" Support them to maintain their independence whilst living in their own home.
" Provide information to help them to improve their health and general wellbeing.
" Encourage young people to be more aware of the challenges faced by older people.
How the Service Works:
" Participating young people will be assigned a specific road or street, which is on their normal walking route to school.
" They will then check that an indicator is displayed in the window of each of their designated households, this will signal that the person is up and well each school day morning.
" The status of the indicators will be reported to the school contact person on arrival at school, and in turn the Dawn Patrol Team.
" When an indicator is not correctly displayed. The Dawn Patrol Team will be alerted to make contact with the household by telephone, or if there is no response, by visit in person.
At no point does the young person enter the house or have any contact with the householder, it is all done by observation alone.
More than one volunteer will be asked to check on the same house, in case the young person forgets or is absent from school.
This service will operate with the help of volunteers during term time, adult volunteers will help during school holidays.
Should you have any queries or problems relating to the service, please contact Dawn Patrol Team. Contact details to the left.
NO to Congestion Charge: Over a million people turned out across Greater Manchester, with a huge 80 per cent majority voting 'No' to the congestion charge.
The huge majority was reinforced as the regions' 10 boroughs voted unanimously against the plans.
Across the Wigan borough almost 80, 000 people voted against the proposals that would have seen road pricing zones placed around central Manchester, with just 27, 810 saying yes to the proposed charge.

Another Hindley Green Accident
December saw another serious accident in Hindley Green.
A man suffered injuries to his leg following a collision with a van in Hindley Green.
Police were called to Coupland Road, Hindley Green following reports of a collision.
Officers attended and found a man with serious injuries to his leg.
He was taken to hospital for treatment.
Coupland Road was closed at its junction with Swan Lane and Wetheral Close while the incident was dealt with.
It appears that Coupland Rd is yet another road in Hindley Green with traffic speed problems.
The recent problems with lighting and the winding bends make this stretch a hazardous area.

Coupland Rd:
Coupland Road has still not been adopted. Although progress on identifying ownership is complete. Transfer of land will take place next year, which will be followed by adoption.
Coupland Rd Proposed Play Area:A questionnaire is being prepared by the Township Forum for consultation with residents who could be affected by this proposed play area.
