620 Bus
Hindley Green / St Helens
.
The Operations Manager responsible for the 620 service has advised that the terminus remains at Organ Street for the time being. However, the
afternoon journey (15:30) does not serve Organ Street as the school finishes at this time and parked vehicles cause chaos.
The bus turns right at lights and goes down to the Industrial Estate where it turns around. It does not pick up passengers here. On the way back the driver observes Thomas Street to see if any passengers are waiting to board.
We are closely monitoring this situation and any necessary action will be taken as soon as possible.

Do you want to be part of a new and exciting project supporting carers across the borough? A carer is someone who, without payment, provides help and support to a relative, friend or neighbour, who could not manage to stay at home without their help due to age, sickness, addiction or disability.
It is estimated that there are in excess of 46,000 carers across Wigan borough providing vital support and care.
Wigan Council is working in partnership with other organisations to develop a new carer centre to enhance, improve and develop services to support carers.
The centre will be funded initially by Wigan Council, but will eventually register as an
independent charity.
We are looking to recruit volunteers to form a board of trustees to develop the centre and support the centre manager in taking this new and exciting project forward.
Successful applicants will come from different backgrounds and have a range of skills, which should include experience in one or more of the following areas.
Issues affecting carers
Human Resources
Information Technology
Fundraising
Work within volunteer sector
Finance
Quality assurance
Charity management
Full support and appropriate training will be given to the successful applicants.
These roles are voluntary and unpaid, all reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
Trustees will be expected to attend approximately six meetings per year.
If you feel that you would like to be part of this project, or would like an informal chat about the responsibilities of a trustee, please phone: Pauline Gregson on

Message from the Ambulance Service: "ICE"
We all carry our mobile phones with names and numbers stored in its memory. If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldn't know who to call. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which one is the
contact person in case of an emergency? Hence this 'ICE' (In Case of Emergency) Campaign.
The concept of 'ICE' is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations. As mobile phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under
the name 'ICE' (In Case Of Emergency). The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents there were always mobile phones with patients but they didn't know which number to call.
He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognised name for this purpose.
In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialing the number you have stored as 'ICE'.
Pass this message on to your friends and relatives.
It really could save your life or put a loved one's mind at rest.
For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3, etc. PLEASE PASS THIS AROUND AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE AS THIS CAN HELP IN AN EMERGENCY.

Buchanan / Edinburgh Drive:
At the last meeting residents expressed their concerns about problems with youths congregating in the alleyway that run adjacent to the houses.
Also, problems with dog fouling and litter.
One of the main problems is criminal damage to property over the past couple of months i.e broken fencing, concrete panels being stolen and wheelie bin being set alight.
It appears that this kind of problem is prevalent throughout the Hindley Green area.

Leigh Road, Hindley Green:
The road will be closed weekend 7th February for resurfacing work between 122 Leigh Road and Pauline Street. The kerbs (where all the accidents happen, opposite houses) are to be replaced Thursday and Friday this week and possibly finishing off on Monday. Then about two weeks later anti-skid surfacing to be put down and a central hatched area with fresh line painting.

Leigh Rd / Smiths Lane Junction Improvement:

Works have been programmed to commence on 16th February 2009 and the intention is that the work will be complete in 10 weeks.
Traffic signals will be installed at the junction and the works also include improvements to the road and footway surface and street lighting modifications.
The works will provide improved facilities for pedestrians at the junction, to make the junction safer and operate more efficiently. Furthermore in 2011 the new country park, on the site of the old Bickershaw Colliery, will be open to the public. The improvements will therefore ensure good access and egress to this new facility.
Every effort will be made to ensure unobstructed pedestrian and vehicular access during this period, although some disruption may occur from time to time.
