Fotara's Christmas Toy Appeal

Thank You from the children

Fotara would like to thank all those who helped with gifts to the Christmas toy appeal in 2008.
This year 90 families in the borough benefited from the successful appeal.
A great thumbs up from the staff. The money HGRA donated was
utilised to purchase boys toys when they ran out of donated toys for boys.

Hindley Green Councillor Bob Brierley along with others from the Mears group, took part in the delivery of the presents to the families. Fotara
( Federation of Tenants and Residents Association )
They are organizing a group now for Christmas 2009.
This Christmas has already started and they would love it if you joined them.
Collecting toys, sorting toys.
Ideas to make it better or bigger.
If you would like to be in the group.
Ring Ann on 01942 676774

Westlake Notice Boards:

Wigan Leisure & Culture Trust has had 2 new notice boards
installed in the Westlake area.
These are primarily to be used to inform users of Greenspace and relevant Trust or Council information such as; forthcoming events, by-laws, poop & scoop, disposal of litter
etc.
……
The content of these notice boards is managed by Greenspaces staff; however, appropriate literature is allowed to be posted by third parties as long as it supports the general message of the Trust or Council.

Harlea Avenue:
There is still the ongoing problem in trying to get the council to adopt Harlea Ave.
Residents have been made aware that rebates may be available from their water rates.
If customers believe that they are not connected to the public sewerage systems, for either foul or surface water, then they will need to follow the procedure that is detailed on their bills to enquire about possible rebates.

Leigh Road, Hindley Green:
Carriageway resurfacing is due to take place over 3 consecutive weekends commencing on Saturday 24th & Sunday 25th January 2009.
To carry out the work safely the road will be closed between Pauline Street and Coal Pit Lane. Alternative route will be Nel Pan Lane, Westleigh Lane, Corner Lane, Atherton Road. This problem was brought up at the Township Forum and a Traffic Speed camera has been added to the wish list for 2009.
Article in Wigan Observer 13th January 2009.
HGRA provided relevant information and photographs to Lancashire Publications.
Re: this Hindley Green accident black spot. As a result an article was published in the Wigan Observer covering the many accidents that have occurred at this location.
HGRA along with Hindley Green Residents are continuing its campaign to see changes made that will once and for all, eradicate these unacceptable incidents.

The picture has been submitted for electrical processing.
This is an ongoing project.

Coupland Rd:
After complaints by residents, following a serious accident which occurred on this road during the very icy conditions.
Wigan council has accepted to include Coupland Rd in the regular gritting route.
Sheila Woodward, vice chairman of Hindley Green Residents Association, strongly protested and said: " People are going down the road thinking they are on a perfectly good road and then it gets icy and something like this happens".
The Council accepted that there is a problem and Metro bosses have agreed to grit the road with immediate effect.

New Care Centre in Hindley
Wigan Council are looking for voluntary carers for their new Care Centre which has been identified as the new building, 'Anrich House' situated on
the corner for Frederick Street in Hindley (opposite the car park, where the market used to be). Application has now been made for change of use and we would anticipate the premises to be ready early in the New Year.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer please ring Pauline Gregson on 705969.
