The Members of the Hindley Green Residents Association would like to commend the Postmaster of the Hindley Green Post Office for his bravery in foiling an attempted armed robbery. The attempted robbery took place at the Post Office on Atherton Rd, Hindley Green in May. A man was arrested and charged with the attempted robbery, the possession of an imitation firearm and possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. The man pointed what appeared to be a gun at the Post Master and demanded cash.
The would-be robber then began smashing the glass screen with the weapon before escaping empty handed in a waiting car towards Green Lane.
Later a black Citroen C1 was found burned out on Highfield Rd, Hindley Green.

Hindley Green Signage:
Finally, the new signage for Hindley Green has been put into place.
The signs are situated at Laurel Nurseries, one near to Carr Common Lane, one just after the Tamar and one in Bickershaw Lane.

Speakers at Residents Association
There were two speakers at the Residents Association meeting in June.
Debbie Freeman a representative of the Township Forum presented a display of the play area and equipment that is proposed for a site in Coupland Rd Hindley Green. Questionnaires have been distributed to residents that may be affected by this play area and questions and opinions were being sought from other residents. She explained that this is the final stage in the informal process and that their findings were to be submitted to the council which will be followed by the official process to carry this forward.

The funding available for this play area and equipment amounts to
£80.000.
The second speaker was Sheila Hunt, a representative for an organization that deals with Learning and Employment.
She explained about help and funding that is available through this organization for assisting the unemployed to get back into work. i.e. Funding for training, Career Advice, Specific Training Courses that could help in finding work.
They can help explore the job market and realistic ways in getting back into employment.
If you have financial difficulties in acquiring a qualification or special training that may lead to securing a job position, then they may be able to help.

20mph Outside Schools Programme: Oakfield High School, Hindley Green will receive letters re: the final plans and a 20mph leaflet over the next week for their information, and then the attached 20mph leaflet will be distributed to all residents within the safety zone throughout June. We are hoping to have the signage and road markings installed and the 20mph School Safety Zones in place for the start of the new academic year.

We are informed by the Alley Gate Team from WMBC, that the alley gates scheduled for the above location are currently being manufactured. Keys for the gates have been posted out today (Wednesday 27th May 2009) to the following numbers on Atherton Road.

Notification of will be given when the fitting will take place.

of the Highways Capital
Programme at the junction of
Atherton Rd/ Long Lane, Hindley Green.

The pavement in front of the shop frontage on Atherton Rd. Hindley Green will eventually be redone with mutual agreement between the shop owners and Cllr Bob Brierley.
Hindley Green Road work in Progress:
Atherton Rd, Hindley Green: Continuation of High friction surfacing work is due to be carried out at the junction Leigh Rd on consecutive Sundays commencing on 26th April 2009.
Temporary traffic signals will be in operation for the duration of the work.
Other Scheduled work includes:
Atherton RD / Leigh Rd crossings.
Crossing outside of Tesco.
Proposed Pegasus Crossing in Leigh Rd, Hindley Green.
As part of the Highways Capital Programme 2009/10, it is proposed a Pegasus type equestrian, cyclist and pedestrian crossing facility on Leigh Rd ( near to the junction of Russel St and Halesfield ) in Hindley Green.
The proposed crossing will link Section 10 of National Cycle Network Route 55 ( Leigh Rd to Howe Bridge) that is currently under construction with proposed Section 7 that will link Section 10 with Amberswood Common and the rest of the network.
